Fiskerstrand Verft AS signs new contract for the conversion of the car ferry MF Fanafjord

news-details

Fiskerstrand Verft AS has announced that it has signed a contract with Nye Fanafjord AS, a subsidiary of Fjord1, for the conversion of the car ferry MF Fanafjord.

As a result of the ferry being sold to the Canadian Government of Canada, it will first undergo a major refit with the necessary adaptations for operation in Canadian waters. This includes, among other things.

Conversion from LNG gas/electric to diesel-electric propulsion. Installation of exhaust gas treatment plant to achieve TIER III emission requirements. The interior design will be partially upgraded, and bow doors with drop limbs will be adapted to new terminals.

After completing the refit in the second quarter of 2024, it will sail to Canada where it will be put into operation by its new owners.

It is a significant contract for the yard, and shows that the expertise and experience built up in recent years, through increased focus on modifications of ships, is paying off.
